According to NBC News, the Biden administration requested that the Supreme Court temporarily block enforcement of a Texas law banning abortions beginning at six weeks pregnant.

Last week, The Department of Justice stated that it would ask the high court to effectively block enforcement of the lawS.B. 8. Legal disputes were resolved.

Republican governor. Greg Abbott signed this law which became effective on September 1. Advocates and providers of abortion rights had in August filed unsuccessful emergency requests to the Supreme Court for a blockade on the law before it was implemented.

Within hours, the law was in effect. The court then issued a 5-to-4 opinion disqualifying the application for an interim order on procedural grounds.
