Asian Stocks Mixed, All Eyes on China Evergrande as Stocks Resume Trading -Breaking

Investing.com – Asia Pacific stocks were mixed on Thursday morning, with investors keeping an eye on China Evergrande Group (HK): Corporate earnings and high inflation
Japan’s was down 0.35% by 10:23 PM ET (2:23 AM GMT), while South Korea’s was up 0.35%.
The Australian dollar was at 0.34%.
Hong Kong’s inched down 0.03%.
China’s edged up 0.13% while the edge down 0.20%, with investors continuing to monitor China Evergrande’s debt woes. Hopson Development Holdings Ltd. was notified that the developer had ended negotiations to sell Evergrande Property Services Group Ltd.’s property-management arm to them.
After a session with mixed results, U.S. futures closed on a lower note. This was after the rise towards a new record and then the fall. In the aftermath of disappointing 20-year auction, longer-term Treasuries saw a decline. As a proxy of where investors will see inflation rates in the next decade over the next ten years, it reached its highest point since 2013.
The earnings season results have contributed to reducing, but not eliminating, the inflationary pressures which could slow down the economic recovery under COVID-19. The ongoing global energy crisis, as well as supply chain disruptions, continue to increase these pressures.
Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:) revenues fell below estimates. However, third quarter profit beat projections in spite of challenges like semiconductor shortages or supply chain bottlenecks.
Randal Quarles, the Governor of the U.S. Federal Reserve stated that he supports an initial step to initiate asset tapering beginning in November 2021. Inflationary pressures are rising and may require a response.
The Fed is “trapped in a very difficult situation,” Mainstay Capital Management chief executive officer David Kudla told Bloomberg. He explained that this could be due to asset tapering and interest rate rises in the face of a slowing economic expansion.
Jerome Powell, the Fed chairman will participate in a panel discussion about policy on Friday. Also, data from the U.S., such as the and, will be released later in the afternoon.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Wednesday booster doses for COVID-19. Moderna Inc. (NASDAQ:) and Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:) COVID-19 vaccines. This follows the regulator’s authorization for booster shots of the Pfizer Inc. (NYSE.)/BioNTech Se (F:), vaccine on Sept. 22.
