U.S. CDC advisers weigh Moderna, J&J COVID-19 vaccine boosters, mix-and-match shots -Breaking

(Reuters) – The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Thursday’s advisory panel considered several suggestions for the rollout COVID-19 vaccine boosters. Moderna (NASDAQ:) Inc and Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:), expected to pave the way for additional shots for millions of Americans.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday authorized the booster doses U.S. FDA clears Moderna, J&J COVID-19 boosters, backs use of different vaccine for boost, and said Americans can choose a different shot from their original inoculation.

In the next few days, the CDC will sign off on recommendations from the panel regarding a rollout which health officials believe could cause confusion.

The CDC Director, Dr. Rochelle Walensky, outlined the tasks ahead of the advisory panel in a salute to their task. She stated that the goal was to clarify all confusion regarding the different booster regimens.

She stated that the recommendations would not only address the question of who should get a booster, but will also specify the vaccines they should be receiving.

On Thursday, the panel will vote on recommendations for booster doses. These recommendations will then be sent to Walensky to be reviewed.

The FDA, CDC and CDC had previously authorized booster shots for the COVID-19 virus vaccine. Pfizer Inc (NYSE 🙂 and BioNTech Se (NASDAQ 🙂 are for individuals 65+, and people at high risk of severe illness or those who may be exposed to the virus from their job.
