NEW YORK (Reuters – Mexico’s central bank continues to tighten monetary policy, but inflation expectations will remain anchored there. Unanchored expectations about Argentina inflation will be met by action on “a number of fronts”, a top representative at the International Monetary Fund indicated Thursday.

Nigel Chalk (acting director, IMF Western Hemisphere) stated that “inflation expectations are still very well anchored” in Mexico.

Concerning Argentina’s government that this week frozen prices for over 1000 household items until 2022 to curb an annualized inflation of more than 50%, Chalk stated that “we think that expectations have become unanchored” and that it will take action on “a variety of fronts given the various drivers.”
