(Reuters) – While many people care about climate change and are committed to it, not everyone should be driving a vehicle that is powered by a battery. Toyota Motor (NYSE) Corp Chief Science Officer Gill Pratt stated Thursday at the Reuters Events Automotive summit.

Pratt explained that Toyota is a firm believer in the “diversity” of its drivetrains to provide customers with different options to lower CO2.

Pratt stated that it was not up to us to determine which solution will be the most successful or only one option would work during an electric vehicle discussion.

He stated that incentives from the government should focus on reducing carbon emissions and not choosing which vehicle technology will be most effective.
