PfizerCovid-19 claims that doses for elementary-aged children are safe and almost 91% effective in preventing infection.

The study’s details were made available online by U.S. regulators Friday, as they consider expanding vaccinations for children aged 5-11 years old.

If regulatory authorities give their approval, shots could be given as early as next month. First children will have Christmas protection.

On Friday, FDA will post the initial results of its review on company safety and effectiveness. The evidence will be publicly discussed by FDA advisers next week.

The FDA will then approve low-dose shots. If not, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will recommend who should get them.

Pfizer is already allowing full-strength Pfizer shots for adults over 12 years old. But, parents and pediatricians anxiously await protection for children younger than 12, to prevent rising strains of the deadly delta virus and keep them in school.
