Russian, Chinese warships hold first joint patrols in the Pacific -Breaking

MOSCOW (Reuters), – Russian-Chinese warships conducted their first joint patrols of the Western Pacific Ocean on October 17, 23. Russia’s defense ministry released a statement Saturday.

Moscow and Beijing held naval cooperation drills at the Sea of Japan in October. This was during a period when relations between the two countries have been deteriorating.

Japan closely monitored the maneuvers, stating earlier this week that 10 vessels representing Russia and China sailed through Tsugaru Strit, which divides Japan’s main island from its northern island of Hokkaido.

According to Russia’s defense ministry, the group of ships made it through Tsugaru Strait as part of a patrol. This strait can be considered international waters.

The ministry stated that the tasks of the patriots included the display of the Russian or Chinese state flags and maintaining peace and stability within the Asia-Pacific region. They also guardianship over the subjects involved in maritime economic activity of both countries.
