Democratic Senators Chuck SchumerAnd Joe Manchinwe were in negotiations with President Joe BidenOn Sunday, Democrats in Delaware scrambled for a social spending agreement.

Unnamed sources did not disclose details of the negotiations or whether the parties were close to agreeing to a $2.5 trillion budget. The framework will enable Congress to advance next week on the $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill.

Speaker of House of Representatives Nancy PelosiOn Friday, Democrats said that they are close to a deal with Biden on his social and climate-change agenda. They also narrowed their differences on health care.

According to a White House official, Biden had planned to welcome the senators to his house for breakfast to discuss the legislation.

Biden’s domestic agenda is being held back by divisions about the scope of the larger package. Progressive Democrats refused to vote in favor the infrastructure bill. The Senate passed it already. Until a deal on climate change can be reached, the Senate has also passed the bill.

Manchin and Senator Kyrsten Silena were the most moderate Democrats who had opposed the $3.5 trillion price tag as well as some of the provisions in the bill. Republicans are opposed to the legislation. However, 19 Senators voted in favor of it.

Pelosi stated that Friday’s legislation had only few remaining issues regarding its health-care provisions. She also said that there was still no decision on how to allocate revenue.
