(Reuters) -As law enforcement investigates the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins https://www.reuters.com/business/media-telecom/director-gutted-by-death-cinematographer-accidental-shooting-2021-10-23 by actor Alec Baldwin in an accident on the set of “Rust”, court records show the probe includes the movie’s armorer and assistant director.

These are details:

HANNAH GUTIERREZ

Gutierrez, 24, was working as the armorer, or person in charge of firearms https://www.reuters.com/world/us/prop-guns-spark-debate-after-cinematographers-death-set-2021-10-22 on the set. An affidavit by the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office detective states that Gutierrez prepared three prop guns, and then placed them on a cart just outside of the venue where they were being practiced.

According to the affidavit, Gutierrez received the gun after the shooting and took out the spent casing.

Gutierrez was not available for comment Sunday.

She had talked about her fears that her inexperience would make her unfit for the job a month prior to Thursday’s accident. This was when she started her first film as head armorer this year, “The Old Way”, starring Nicolas Cage. It is due out next year.

Gutierrez stated that she was nervous at the beginning and nearly turned down the job. But, once I started doing the work, everything went smoothly. Gutierrez spoke on the podcast “Voices of the West”. Gutierrez also discussed Western movies.

Gutierrez studied under her famous Hollywood armorer father Thell. His biography at IMDB.com states that Reed started competition shooting when he was a child, participated in Wild West shows and then taught gun handling to stars like Russell Crowe or Brad Pitt.

Reed didn’t immediately reply to Sunday’s request for comment.

DAVID HALLS

Halls (62), assistant director, took one of the guns from the cart, and brought it in to Baldwin. He yelled “cold gun,” which, on set, means that the gun was not loaded with ammunition.

The affidavit stated that he didn’t know there were live rounds in the prop gun before he presented it to the actor.

Halls has not yet responded to inquiries for comment.

Halls, a veteran Hollywood actor with credits for movies such as “Fargo”, 1996 and “The Matrix Reloaded” 2003. He is also an actor.

CNN and NBC News quoted Maggie Goll as saying that she raised safety concerns for Halls while working together in Hulu’s “Into the Dark,” television series, on Sunday.

Goll said that he didn’t maintain a safe environment for his employees. Safety meetings did not exist because sets were allowed to get more claustrophobic. There were no fire lanes or exits that were established, and there were few.

Aaron B. Koontz (film producer) worked alongside Halls in two other movies, but wasn’t involved with the production of “Rust”. He told the Los Angeles Times Halls was efficient and a great manager.
