Hurricane Rick makes landfall on Mexico’s Pacific coast -Breaking

MEXICO CITY, (Reuters) – Hurricane Rick’s eye landed on Mexico’s Pacific Coast early Monday morning, bringing heavy rains and winds that can trigger flash flooding or mudslides.

According to the Miami-based NHC, the storm had sustained winds maximum of 105 MPH (165 km/H) and was located 15 miles (25km) northeast of Lazaro Cardenas port in Michoacan as of 7:00 AM local time (1200 GMT).

It stated that Rick’s slow weakening was expected while Rick moved over land today. Rick will dissipate in the mountains of south Mexico Tuesday or tonight.”

Rick will be moving inland towards southern Mexico Monday. Expect 5-10 Inches of rainfall, along with scattered storm totals of up to 20 Inches across some parts of Guerrero or Michoacan until Tuesday.

NHC stated that heavy rains could cause “flash flooding and mudslides”

Mexico’s civil Protection Agency advised residents living in southern states of the country to remain indoors from Sunday night.

Guerrero’s education ministry announced Monday that classes will be suspended along the coast, warning about heavy rain, strong winds and large waves in Costa Grande.

Televisa News was told by a government official that officials in Guerrero, Michoacan, and the coast states of Colima and Jalisco were creating shelters for areas susceptible to flooding.
