Stellantis (STLA.MI), world’s fourth largest carmaker, will continue to sell its upscale DS Automobiles brand here in China. However, it will announce a new strategy for disappointing sales early next year, Brand Director Beatrice Foucher stated on Tuesday.
After the January merger between Fiat Chrysler, an Italian-American carmaker Fiat Chrysler, and France’s PSA in which Stellantis was created by Carlos Tavares as chief executive of the company’s 14 brands and services divisions, he promised that the brand’s fourteen remaining brands would be kept under the condition each one would concentrate on the strongest segments and markets.
Stellantis has sold its shares in a local manufacturing site to help the brand maintain its presence in China.
“Nothing’s changing at the moment for DS. Foucher said that China will continue to support the project.
Tavares plans to outline by 2022 his plan for restoring sales on the largest car market in the world.
That plan includes a strong focus on Opel’s 100% electric vehicles as well as the use of one of GAC’s plants, which are specialized in making the Jeep brand.
DS is one of Stellantis premium brands, along with Alfa Romeo et Lancia. In 2024, the STLA Medium electric platform will be inaugurated with a brand new model.
