REUTERS/Rebecca CookTURIN, Italy (Reuters] – The four new electric platforms that Stellanti’s has developed are each expected to support the production of 2,000,000 vehicles per year, said the Automaker’s Head for Italy on Wednesday.
After the establishment of Fiat Chrysler as the fourth-largest carmaker in the world at the start of 2011, Chief Executive Carlos Tavares called for the convergence of 14 of the group’s brands. This would allow the company to reach a target of more than 5 billion euros ($5.8billion) annually and speed up its move to cleaner vehicles.
Stellantis intends to spend more than 30 millions euros on electrifying their vehicle line-up between 2025 and 2025. In this context, the company announced that it would be establishing four new platforms.
Stellantis’ country manager in Italy Santo Ficili said, “The platforms have a high degree of flexibility and parts sharing to create scale economies.”
This will allow each platform to produce up to 2 million units annually.
Stellantis aims for 70% or more of its European sales to be from low-emission vehicles in 2030. It also aims to reduce the cost of an electric car to half that of a gasoline engine by 2026.
Ficili stated that although electric car production costs were more expensive than traditional engines, it was urgent to provide buyers with access to them through improved financing.
