REUTERS/Philippe Wojazer//File Photo(Reuters] Harley-Davidson Inc reported higher-than-expected quarterly sales on Wednesday. It was a clear sign of its turnaround plan that focuses on getting more profitable bikes for wealthy customers.
The Milwaukee-based firm has changed its focus from selling high-margin touring and large cruiser bikes to wealthy customers who are older than them in more traditional markets such as the United States or Europe.
It appears that the bet is paying off as Harley’s reported its third consecutive quarter of sales growth, even though it was hit by pandemic-induced lows. Before that Harley’s sales were down for 2 years.
Refinitiv I/B/E/S data shows that the company, which dates back to 118 years old, reported revenue of $1.37billion in its third quarter. That’s higher than analyst estimates of $1.14billion.
The net income grew to $163 million or $1.05 per Share, from $120 millions or 78 cents per Share a year prior.
