REUTERS/Christinne Muschi/File Photo (Reuters) – Bombardier, a Canadian company that makes business jets (OTC) Inc suffered a less severe second-quarter loss Thursday due to a rebound in private aircraft demand by corporates and wealthy investors following last year’s sales slump.
The combination of travel restrictions being relaxed and private flight has resulted in a boom in business aviation. Private operators are now able to fill seats and planemakers have an increase in order backlogs.
Bombardier saw an increase in large-sized aircraft deliveries that resulted in a 17% jump in business jet revenues to $1.4billion.
The company stated that revenue from business aviation services rose also due to an increase in fleet hours, which has now exceeded 2019 levels. It added that the United States’ business jet usage rose 42.5% over the previous year.
Last month, the company unveiled an upgraded variant of the Challenger 350 business jet to defend its market position and take advantage of the increased demand for private aviation during the pandemic.
Bombardier Montreal posted an adjusted loss of $95 millions, or 4c per share in the period ended September 30, as compared to its loss of $210million, or 9c, one year ago.
Revenue rose to $1.45 trillion by 3%
