© Reuters. FRANKFURT (Reuters). Robert Bosch, a German technology firm has allocated over 400 million euros ($467 millions) to microchip production in Germany next year. This is in response to a global shortage.
Vehicle production has been disrupted by the lack of chips. The suppliers have had to rely on chip from only two manufacturers, one in Asia and one in the United States.
Bosch stated that it will spend the majority of its budget on expanding its Dresden factory for 300 millimeter wafers. It was established in June.
The company estimates that 50 million euros of investment will go to a Reutlingen site near Stuttgart, where they make 200-millimeter wafers.
The construction of a semiconductor testing center in Penang, Malaysia will also be supported, the report said, but didn’t specify how much.
Intel (NASDAQ;), the largest manufacturer of data centre processor chips for computers and PCs, announced last month that it will invest an additional 80 billion in Europe during the next decade.
