HONG KONG, (Reuters) – Ether, the second-largest cryptocurrency in the world, reached an all-time high Friday. This was just over a week after bitcoin broke its record.

Token, which is the backbone of the Ethereum blockchain network, rose to as high as 2.6% at $4,400 during Asian hours. This surpasses May’s previous record of $4,380.

Recent rallies in cryptocurrency markets are impressive. Ethereum is now up more than 60% from its September low.

The Oct. 20 record of $67,000.16 was broken by a 1.4% increase at $61,457. That’s an increase of about half since September.

A meme-based cryptocurrency called shiba, which has seen its price rocket to around 160%, is the eighth most valuable token in the world, and it is one of the largest movers in cryptocurrency.

Inu, a dogecoin spinoff that was born in 2013 as a joke about a crypto frenzy, has little practical application.
