Engine maker Safran renews concerns about Airbus output hopes -Breaking

PARIS (Reuters), – French engine manufacturer Safran (PA:), said Friday that it was still not convinced of the argument for increasing Airbus A320 family jet production to 70-75 per month. This despite assurances by the planemaker Thursday regarding the sector’s post-COVID outlook.

Olivier Andries, Chief Executive of Airbus, stated that he could produce enough engines to reach Airbus’ goal of 65 per month in summer 2023. However, he expressed doubts over its ability to go beyond this target. Andries also pointed out the global shortage of labour.

The exploration of rates over 65 is clearly a challenging task. However, the main question for us remains: can such rates be sustained in the medium-term? “It is still an open problem,” he said to reporters.
