Easier cartel rules for packaging, logistics companies, EU’s Vestager says -Breaking

BRUSSELS, (Reuters) – Packaging (NYSE:), and logistic companies will soon be able cooperate on green projects with no fear of violating cartel rules. This was the claim made by Margrethe Vestager, EU antitrust chief.

Companies that conspire to fix illegally prices or to share market can be fined up to 10% under EU cartel regulations.

Vestager, a member of the EU’s antitrust enforcers, stated in the text of a speech at an event to take place in Helsinki that they plan to give guidance to logistics and packaging companies.

“Consider an established market with some bad environmental habits – maybe to do with packaging or logistics. She suggested that companies within that market may need to work together to break free of this rut and reach a more sustainable, better-looking equilibrium.

“In these cases, the Commission wants to give legal certainty that they won’t fall foul of EU’s cartels regulations. Vestager will soon receive a communication from the Commission explaining all of these points.

Soon, she will adopt looser regulations on state aid in order to let EU countries subsist projects related to energy, climate or environment. This is consistent with the European Commission’s objective of greening Europe’s economy.
