LONDON — BarclaysThe bank released Monday a statement saying that Jes Staley, CEO of the Bank, will resign following an investigation into Jeffrey Epstein’s relationship.

According to the statement, “Barclays was made aware by Mr Jes Staley as Group Chief Executive of the preliminary results of the FCA/PRA investigations into Mr Staley’s characterisation of Barclays of Mr Jeffrey Epstein’s relationship and how that relationship has been described in Barclays’ reply to the FCA.”

“In consideration of the above conclusions, and Mr Staley’s intentions to challenge them, Mr Staley and the Board have agreed that he will be stepping down as Group Chief executive and as director of Barclays.”

The bank stated that the investigators had not discovered Staley knew or saw any of Epsteins’ alleged crimes.

Billionaire financier Epstein was arrested in July 2019 on child sex-trafficking charges but hanged himself a month later in a Manhattan federal jail.

This is an ongoing story that will soon be updated.
