(Reuters) – Novavax (NASDAQ:) Inc. Serum Institute of India and their partner received Monday emergency authorization to use the COVID-19 vaccination in Indonesia. It is Novavax’s first worldwide approval.

Novavax’s shares rose 11% in the morning after Novavax announced it had submitted an emergency use application for its vaccine to Canada.

The shot for Indonesia will be made by Serum Institute (the world’s biggest vaccine manufacturer) and sold under Covovax, an Indian brand.

Novavax stated that the first shipment into Indonesia is expected to start immediately.

According to government estimates, the country will receive 20 million doses this year of the protein-based vaccination.

Penny Lukito is the chief of National Agency for Drug and Food Control of Indonesia. She did not immediately reply to a Reuters inquiry.

Novavax has applied for EUA so far in several countries including India, Australia and the Philippines.

Takeda Pharmaceutical Co and the Japanese company partner said Friday that they were preparing for regulatory approval to roll out the product in Japan beginning next year.

Novavax, Serum Institute and the World Health Organization have agreed to provide more than 1 billion doses of vaccines for the COVAX facility. After securing an Emergency Use List from the WHO, the supply of vaccine will begin this year and last until 2022.

Novavax delayed filing for U.S. Approval until the end of the year. Politico also reported last month about Novavax’s production and quality issues.

Novavax was found to be over 90% effective in combating a range of coronavirus variants, according to a U.S. clinical trial.
