U.S. woman who assisted Bali ‘suitcase’ murder to be deported after release -Breaking

JAKARTA, Reuters – A woman from the United States who has been released after serving part of a 10 year sentence for her involvement in the murder her mother committed will be returned home Tuesday by an immigration official.

Heather Mack was originally from Chicago and she was sentenced to 15 years in prison with Tommy Schaefer in 2015. She had murdered her mother Sheila von Wiese–Mack, stuffing her body in a suitcase, then dumping it on Bali.

Schaefer was arrested in 2014. He was sentenced in 2015 for premeditated, murder. Mack received a 10-year sentence as an accessory to murder.

According to Lili, Kerobokan’s chief for female inmates Lili who only goes by one name, Mack was freed from prison last week after receiving a 34 month remission for good behavior.

I Putu Surya Dharma the official in charge of immigration, said to Reuters that Mack had been deported according to Indonesian law.

He said that Mack’s flight would depart Tuesday night and she would arrive in Chicago’s O’Hare airport.

Mack gave birth to a son before her sentence. Yulius Benyamin Seran, Mack’s attorney, said to Reuters that Mack would bring her child back with him to the United States.

When asked about details regarding her deportation, the lawyer replied:

That question is beyond my ability to answer. Heather will deport me after I have met with her. I’ll be able answer that question.”
