(Reuters) – Between 2016 and 2019, more than 140,000 drivers get $60 million in tipping money that was illegally withheld from Amazon (NASDAQ:), according to Tuesday’s Federal Trade Commission.

The agency filed a lawsuit against Amazon Logistics and the tech company, saying that the company did not pay the tips drivers who had been working in the Amazon Flex (NASDAQ) program.

Amazon Flex drivers are able to deliver groceries and goods ordered via programs such as Prime Now or Amazon Fresh. After learning about the investigation by the agency in 2019, the lawsuit claimed that tips were kept by the company for two and a half years.

According to the FTC, Amazon reached an agreement with the FTC in February to resolve the matter and turn over all money that it had withheld.

According to the agency, it will mail 139.507 checks as well as 1,621 PayPal payments (NASDAQ:), to Amazon Flex drivers. Amazon will pay the entire amount for drivers who have had more than $5 withheld from their tips. Amazon Flex drivers who received more than $5 withheld by Amazon are entitled to the full amount of their tips, which is higher than $28,000 and lower than the average $422.
