SYDNEY – Authorities announced Wednesday that a 4-year-old girl, who was reported missing at an Australian campsite in the outback more than 2 weeks ago, has been discovered “alive” and well at a lock house.
Cleo Smith, who lives in Carnarvon (a small town located 100 kilometers south of the campsite) was discovered by police in one the rooms.
One of the officers took her into his arms, and asked her “what is your name?” On local TV, Col Blanch from Western Australia Police said that she said “My name is Cleo”. According to him, the missing person has taken a male into custody.
Cleo last saw her family in their tent on October 16th at 1.30 AM local time. It was located in Macleod about 900km (560 miles) north Perth, which is the capital city of Western Australia. Cleo was missing when her parents woke up the next day.
The girl was abducted by Australian police and they offered A$1million ($743,000) as a reward.
This is wonderful and a great relief. Cleo Smith was safely and securely returned home. “Our prayers were answered,” Scott Morrison, Prime Minister of Canada, tweeted.
