(Reuters] – Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown was a Democrat. After losing the nomination to a socialist candidate, he ran a unique write-in campaign. On Tuesday, Byron Brown won a re-election election. This gives him a fifth term of office.
India Walton is a Democratic Socialist, Community Activist, and Nurse. She won the Democratic Primary in June against Brown. Brown has been the state’s first African-American mayor since 2005.
However, with no Republican candidates on the ballot at the time, Brown, now 63, ran as an alternative moderate to Walton (39), and encouraged voters to add his name to their ballots.
After Walton was reported to have won 41%, Brown declared victory and thanked all his supporters. 59% were write-in votes.
