REUTERS/Ahmed Jadallah/File photo(REUTERS – Dubai will merge tourism and economy departments and hopes that 25 million tourists can visit the city by 2025, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Bin Rashid al Maktoum (NYSE:) said Saturday.
Sheikh Hamdan said that Helal Marri would be the general director for the department.
Dubai’s ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum stated that his new department will help increase the sector’s added value by 150% in the next five-years, expand foreign export markets by half and boost the number of tourists to 40%.
He stated that Emirate wants to attract 100,000 businesses in three years and 400 international economic events each year by 2025. It also encourages private sector and family-owned companies to list on Dubai’s stock markets and stock exchanges.
