LONDON, (Reuters) – The British Prime Minister Boris Johnson rejected new allegations of corruption after a newspaper investigation revealed that major donors to the Conservative Party received seats in Parliament’s upper chamber.

Johnson had to abandon plans that were being pushed through Parliament to help protect one of his senators, who was discovered to have violated lobbying regulations.

The Sunday Times reported in its Sunday Times that none of 16 Conservative treasurers have donated over 3 million pounds (4.05 million dollars) to the party. Then, they were offered a place at the House of Lords.

The newspaper stated that the role of Conservative Treasurer is now the most noble in Britain. It surpasses the roles of leaders of charitable and institutional organisations, former prime ministers, and others.

Angela Rayner, deputy leader of the opposition Labour Party, stated on Twitter that Boris Johnson’s Conservative Party was corrupt, dodgy and sleazy. (NYSE:

George Eustice, Environment Minister, denied the allegations, telling BBC: “They’re philanthopsts that give enormous amounts of charity. They have also been extremely successful in business. Therefore, they should be considered for Lords.”

Eustice described also the outrage over Owen Paterson (Conservative lawmaker) quitting parliament following the U-turn by the government on its plans to reform the system for fighting parliamentary corruption as “a storm in a teacup”.

Johnson’s ethical code has been questioned again by the row. Johnson has been accused of other wrongdoing. He was also charged with plans to secretly fund luxury renovations of his Downing Street apartment. Johnson stated that Johnson was adamant the refurbishment went according to plan.

An Opinium poll conducted for the Observer magazine found that Johnson’s personal satisfaction rating is at its lowest ever level. However, Labour’s lead has fallen by one percentage point.

On Monday, Parliament will hold an emergency discussion on standards.

Keir Starmer, Labour leader, said that the prime minister was “doing a disservice to our democracy” and made this statement on Sunday to BBC television.

“It’s a pattern for behaviour by a prime Minister who doesn’t know how public life should be run.”
