KENOSHA WIS. (Reuters). Here’s a timeline that traces the case against Kyle Rittenhouse. He is accused of murdering two people and wounding a third using a military-style rifle in protests held last year in Kenosha.

August 23, 2020: A Kenosha police officer responds to a domestic disturbance and shoots Jacob Blake seven shots at close range. This paralyzes the Black man, setting off protests.

Aug. 25, 2020 — As Kenosha gets ready for the third night, Rittenhouse (then 17) takes out his rifle to join other armed protestors on the streets. Rittenhouse said he was called to protect a used-car dealer. Rittenhouse shoots Joseph Rosenbaum at midnight. According to video evidence, Rosenbaum may have tried to grab Rittenhouse’s rifle and chased Rittenhouse. Rittenhouse, who is now 27 years old, shoots Anthony Huber (26), as he is running down the street. Grosskreutz was holding a firearm at the time, but he survived.

July 27-28 2020, Kenosha County prosecutor charges Rittenhouse six criminal offenses, including reckless or intentional homicides. Rittenhouse surrendered on August 26 and is currently being held in Illinois. Lin Wood from Atlanta claims that video evidence could prove Rittenhouse’s self-defense. Wood starts soliciting donations via a non-profit, and in less than a month has collected nearly $2,000,000. Wood and another attorney portray Rittenhouse in a patriotic manner and link him with the gun issue.

Oct. 30, 2020 Rittenhouse extradited to Wisconsin

Nov. 20, 2020- John Pierce is released as Rittenhouse’s attorney. He posts $2 million cash bail. Rittenhouse is freed.

January 5, 2021: Kenosha County District attorney Michael Graveley found that Rusten Sheskey shot Blake in self defense. Graveley stated that Blake had been armed with knives and was resisting arrest. Rittenhouse also pleaded guilty in video court at Kenosha County Circuit Court to not all charges.

Nov. 1, 2021, the Rittenhouse trial starts with jury selection.

Nov. 2, 2021 — Opening statements are part of the Trial.

Nov. 3, 2021: Jurors view graphic videos that show the chaos after Rittenhouse killed three protesters.

November 4, 2021: One juror was dismissed after telling a joke outside of the courtroom to a deputy sheriff about Blake’s police shooting.
