Kohei Nawa’s Public Art “White Deer (Oshika)” Original Data Converted to NFT and Aiming to Donate The Public Art to Ishinomaki-CityTRiCERA, a global art marketplace announce the release of the NFT version of “White Deer (Oshika)” by one of the most famous sculptor Kohei Nawa in Japan.
TRiCERA will be selling a NFT data package including the original 3D data of Kohei Nawa’s sculpture “White Deer (Oshika)” and an installation video in the Oginohama area of Ishinomaki City, which was damaged by a great earthquake.
Kohei Nawa (Japan sculptor) is interested in digital culture, contemporary spirituality and other aspects of Japanese art. His PixCell series is his most well-known work. He covers taxidermied animals with intricate layers of glass beads and prisms. Kohei is inspired in part by digital pixels—which use light to construct images—as a conceptual gesture, thereby making his sculptures a real-life analogue to the digital image.
“White Deer (Oshika)” is a sculptural work that reinterprets the “divine deer” depicted in ancient Japanese mythology using modern technology. The Reborn-Art Festival 2017 was a festival that featured art, music and food. It was presented in Ishinomaki Prefecture.
White Deer, also known as Oshika, is a natural messenger who appears in the village to ask questions about human society and then waits with its long-stemmed horns for spring.
This release aims to permanently install the “White Deer (Oshika)” in Oginohama, which is scheduled to be exhibited for a limited time until 2027 in consultation with Ishinomaki City. The Reborn-Art Festival Executive Committee will receive a part of the proceeds to help fund maintenance of the sculptural works. With the artists we will discover new avenues for public art that cross over the real and the virtual. Your participation is greatly appreciated in this new NFT project in public artwork.
This project asks what public art means and how social sculpture can be used in today’s new age. Artists try to do their best in a tight budget and under different pressures when they create an art festival. When I thought about how to maintain and manage these miraculous works, which can only be created at the right moment, and how to pass them on to the next generation, I began to see the social significance and role of NFT.”
said Kohei Nawa.
“We feel very honored to be able to announce this initiative with Mr. Nawa, one of the most prominent artists in Japan. TRiCERA is a firm believer in NFT’s infinite potential and has discussed how it could be incorporated into contemporary art for some time. The dialogue that led to this project with Mr. Nawa was fruitful. We have been discussing how NFT could be incorporated into public art. I believe it has become a project of great social significance.”,
Say it! Tai Iguchi is CEO of TRiCERA.
