(Reuters) – Bangladesh’s Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd announced Tuesday that it will begin selling a generic Merck antiviral medication for COVID-19 after receiving an emergency authorization from the national regulators.
Merck’s drug molnupiravir is currently under review in Europe and the United States, but it was approved last week for use in Britain.
Beximco indicated that the generic version would be launched first in Bangladesh, where it is more accessible. Exports will then be considered depending on global regulatory approvals.
