Discord CEO reveals pre-released Ethereum integration. Some users are dissatisfied

Judging by a pre-release screenshot shared by Discord’s CEO Jason Citron, the instant messaging platform might soon support MetaMask and WalletConnect integrations.

The CEO’s announcement about the upcoming blockchain integration came as a response to a tweet from the founder of Not Boring, Packy McCormick (NYSE:), who shared an article that read:

Visualize a website for humans. Think of a place that is full of dank memes. You can imagine a land where potatoes flourish. Think of a peaceful place in which humans and robots co-exist. Or, to put it another way, imagine a Discord.

Although the screenshot of Discord’s pre-released Discord App was shared by Citron, it aims to promote cryptocurrency adoption. The gaming community however opposed this move, emphasizing the difficulties faced by crypto ecosystems in terms of money laundering, carbon emissions and vulnerability within the market for non-fungible tokens (NFT).

In addition, the announcement stirred numerous users to terminate their subscriptions with Discord Nitro, which is the platform’s premium service offering, which costs $4.99 per month and $49.99 for a year.

Olivia (NYSE: Discord) expressed her opinions via Twitter

Some users in the gaming community, however, are optimistic and claim that this move is a positive step. Bryce NFT was another user who responded to Olivia, saying:

Without any evidence, you have really called NFT Space a Ponzi Scheme. Don’t comment on anything when you have no idea about the space.
