WASHINGTON (Reuters] – A new attempt was made Wednesday to prevent congressional investigators access to White House records that Trump wants to hide.

U.S. District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan did not put off her decision from Tuesday, which would have allowed a House of Representatives panel to request Trump White House records related to Jan. 6’s attack on U.S. Capitol.

Trump’s attorneys had requested Chutkan to suspend enforcement of Tuesday’s ruling, while Trump appeals to the higher courts. Trump requested a similar action from the U.S. Court of Appeals, District of Columbia. It has still not responded to his request.

Federal agency, The National Archives (which holds Trump’s White House Records), is set to provide hundreds of pages of documents to Congress on Friday.

Chutkan allowed the U.S. House of Representatives to investigate the attack and access visitor logs, telephone records, and other White House documents.

An ex-president Republican had stated that documents requested by the committee by him were protected by executive privilege which is a legal doctrine that preserves confidentiality for some White House communications.

In a Tuesday ruling Chutkan rejected this argument, a win for congressional oversight power.

To understand Trump’s role in the riot, his supporters tried to stop legislators from certifying Democrat Joe Biden’s victory. The committee requested the materials.

On Jan. 6, four people were killed, one by police. Three others died of natural causes. More than 100 officers sustained injuries in the attack. The Capitol Police officer that had been assaulted by protesters, died on the following day. Four other officers who stood up for the Capitol were also killed in the attack.
