MOSCOW, (Reuters) – A second supercomputer as well as artificial intelligence (AI), upgrades are part of Sberbank’s enhanced offerings digital services like cloud computing and virtual assistant software. Chief Technology Officer David Rafalovsky spoke to Reuters Wednesday.

Russia’s most important lender invests more in non-banking services. It is also shifting towards more technological systems. In fact, it dropped the “bank” logo last year. It unveiled Thursday the Christofari Neo supercomputer to satisfy internal and external AI demands. This has been exceedingly successful.

Nikolai Christofari was 180 years the first customer to whom this supercomputer was ever named.

This lender is also available to other Russian businesses, including Yandex Tinkoff and (NASDAQ:) is creating a “system of services” that goes beyond the core business. This is something Sberbank believes is necessary to counter shrinking margins in traditional banks.

According to the central bank, banks will need additional buffers in case ecosystem investments surpass 30% of total capital.

Rafalovsky stated that Sberbank’s ecosystem, which includes ecommerce and cyber security, has the ability to invest hundreds of millions more in technology.

Rafalovsky stated in an interview that “we are not restricted in terms investment ability, or capital.” We are now investing more than we were a year ago. Overall, our investments in IT infrastructure and products increased.”

Sberbank was not able to recruit the most talented IT professionals, according to Dimas.

Sberbank requires this talent in order to expand its technological capabilities. Rafalovsky stated that the most important update was ML Space Private. This is an AI toolkit third-parties can access without connecting to SberCloud.

This was significant because many Russian-linked state firms may not have the ability to use sensitive government data through Sberbank’s commercial cloud platform.

Sberbank is majority owned by Russia’s Government and has assets in excess of 36.8 Trillion Rupees (521.5 Billion) with a market capital of approximately $113 billion.

German Gref, Sberbank’s Chief Executive Officer on Tuesday, stated that Sberbank is looking at expanding its digital offering to other European countries. Rafalovsky also suggested that digital asset spin-offs were possible in due time.

“We’re set up so that we can do it when it is convenient,” he stated. The timing is just as crucial as the ability to create something.
