(Reuters) – Snap Inc (NYSE) announced Monday that Snapchat, the parent company behind photo messaging app Snapchat, has appointed its first Head of Telecom Carrier Partnerships. The move is part of Snapchat’s strategy to increase its global growth.

Santa Monica, California-based business has enjoyed steady international growth since it improved its Android phone app. This is more common than Apple’s (NASDAQ: iOS) iOS. Now, it plans to grow by working with smartphone carriers in India (NASDAQ:) and Indonesia. India is where Snapchat has reached its 100 millionth user.

Anne Laurenson joins Snap (NASDAQ:) as the managing director for global carrier partnerships. According to Snap, she will be located in Paris. She is also the first Snap executive to manage a global team from abroad.

Laurenson managed the Android Operating System strategy in Europe and the Middle East while working at Google. This was done through tie-ups and partnerships with mobile phone manufacturers and carriers.

Snap used this strategy to expand in India which is a key growth market for messaging and social media apps. It has also partnered with Oppo and Samsung (KS), which have pre-installed Snapchat on Android phones.

Snap has signed deals with other companies to increase adoption of the camera and its augmented reality capabilities. In its JioPhone Next smartphone, Google integrated Jio’s Snapchat lenses. These can be used to overlay visual effects on photos.

Indosat Ooredoo is an Indonesian telecom operator that partnered with Snap in order to offer a program for brands and content producers to use AR features.
