Spanish police are investigating the theft of a Bitcoin ATM installed in one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in Barcelona, ​​Spain. A gang of youths in hoods crashed their vehicle into the ATM’s doors.

On Friday, December 12th at around 3:00 a.m., criminals entered the area and stole a Bitcoin ATM. The felony occurred “a few meters from Turó Park, at number 6 Beethoven Street,” in the Sarrià-Sant Gervasi neighborhood, reported local newspaper La Vanguardia.

After hearing about the assault, several locals approached the site to witness the robbery. Witnesses captured the crime as well as its perpetrators via their smartphones.

This is the first Spanish Bitcoin ATM robbery. The singular event has the Mossos d’Esquadra (Barcelona’s police force) working on investigations with the aim of discovering the identity of the thieves, and subsequently apprehending them.

Witnesses have captured photos of several hooded men placing the ATM into the trunk. The assault, despite the fact that one attacker tried to block witnesses from taking photos by spraying them with fire extinguishers, was nonetheless recorded.
