SINGAPORE (Reuters) – Singapore’s Pavilion Energy Trading & Supply Pte Ltd said on Wednesday it has jointly developed with suppliers QatarEnergy and Chevron Corporation (NYSE:), a way to determine greenhouse gas emissions from liquefied LNG cargoes.

The calculation of emissions from wellhead-to-discharge terminal will be applied to sales and purchase agreements that Pavilion Energy has with the producers, the trading company said in a statement.

Pavilion’s announcement is in line with a framework that was announced by the International Group of Liquefied Natural Gas Importers, (GIIGNL) Wednesday to establish rules for carbon neutral cargo declarations.

Umwelt groups have expressed concern about carbon offsets.

Chevron, QatarEnergy, and Pavilion said that their methods will improve transparency and accuracy in emission calculation.

Pavilion Energy’s interim chief executive officer, Alan Heng said that the methodology “sets a strong tone to increase accountability for emissions along the LNG Value Chain, paving way for more decarbonisation Strategies towards a lower-carbon future.”
