(Reuters) – Nike Inc (NYSE: ) announced Thursday a virtual universe modeled after Roblox Corp’s headquarters. It is the company’s first entry into the “metaverse”.

Roblox allows anyone to access the digital “NIKELAND” space. It allows users to customize their avatars with Nike products.

The site currently offers three games: “Tag”, The Floor Is Lava and “Dodgeball”. The creators of the mini-games have access to interactive sports material so they can create their own.

Metaverse is the buzzword of the tech world after Facebook (NASDAQ) was renamed Meta. It’s a virtual shared universe where avatars interact with each other, listen to music, and shop digitally.

According to Strategy Analytics, the global metaverse market will reach $6.16 million in 2021 and $41.62 trillion by 2026.

According to the sportswear company, “Nike has created an exclusive world set against the backdrop of Roblox’s immersive space in 3D. This is part of the goal to make sport and play a lifestyle.”

Visitors can transfer their offline movements to online play using the accelerometers on their smartphones at NIKELAND. This allows for real-life movement within the digital space.
