LONDON (Reuters] – Dyson will let customers test their hairdryers, stylers and straighteners in virtual reality from the convenience of their homes.
Dyson Demo VR was built using the same visualization and simulation technology that the British company uses to develop, prototype and test new products.
James Dyson (founder and Chief Engineer of Dyson) stated that VR could be used to enhance people’s understanding about Dyson products.
He said, “We’ve been using powerful virtual reality technology to create new products for years. Now we’re using those technologies to reinvent how users explore our products.”
Companies selling consumer goods are trying new ways of communicating with their customers online in preparation for the launch of the metaverse. This VR concept, created by Facebook (NASDAQ:), has been mainstreamed last month.
Dyson explained in a statement how its virtual-reality showroom extended its selling direct to customers through 318 stores and its website. The VR headset Oculus headset store will also be open from Friday.
Sean Newmarch is the Dyson Demo VR’s E-commerce Director. He said demos are an essential component of showing the products work. Future Dyson Demo VRs will incorporate an integrated ecommerce solution as well as the possibility to chat with a salesperson.
Newmarch announced that Dyson’s products for hair would be its first product launch, and the floor care range will follow.
