WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – The U.S. Federal Trade Commission said Friday that it will not alter its course despite the criticisms from U.S. Chamber of Commerce regarding a number of actions taken by Lina Khan (FTC Chair).

Friday was Friday for the Chamber of Commerce. It stated it sent more than 30 Freedom of Information Act Requests and had already written three letters.

Chamber expressed concern about the votes cast by Rohit Chopra, who left FTC in January. However, these votes were reported after his departure. He is now the head of U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Chamber was concerned about interference by the White House in FTC decision making and agency decision to apply civil penalty authority.

FTC enforces antitrust laws and pursues consumers who are accused of misleading them. It stated that it will not alter its direction.

“The FTC announced that we will intensify our efforts to tackle corporate crime. Now, the Chamber has declared war on the agency. Peter Kaplan, FTC spokesperson said that we aren’t going to relent because corporate lobbyists have made threats.

He stated that “We will do our jobs and continue to stand up for consumers and honest businesses as well as workers and entrepreneurs who are entitled to a fair market.”

Suzanne Clark, the Chamber’s Chief Executive and President, stated in a statement that the FTC is “waging war against American businesses”. She also claimed the FTC “is going rogue”.

A lawsuit was filed by the agency against Facebook (NASDAQ) for violating antitrust law. They have also requested that high gasoline prices be investigated. The agency is currently considering an investigation to determine the impact of supply chain disruptions on competition.
