(Reuters] – Former Democratic U.S. senator Beto O’Rourke criticized President Joe Biden on Sunday for not pressing for a revision of immigration laws. He indicated that he is going to distance himself form the White House as part of his unsuccessful campaign.

O’Rourke announced last Monday https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us-ex-congressman-beto-orourke-challenge-texas-governor-abbott-2021-11-15 he will seek to unseat Republican Governor Greg Abbott in next year’s election, aiming to become the first Democrat to win a statewide race in Texas, the second most populous U.S. state, in three decades.

O’Rourke said that he did not believe there was enough urgency in rewriting immigration laws to reflect the realities and needs of our border communities. O’Rourke spoke to CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday. So, “So yes, we do expect more from our president, and the members of Congress,” O’Rourke said.

Others issues like infrastructure, social spending, and COVID-19 relief have been prioritized by the Democratic president over immigration reform. The Congress is dominated by Democrats.

O’Rourke also criticized Abbott saying that the governor was “using the border as a photo opportunity and scapegoating and vilifying immigrants, asking Texans (quote: “defend themselves”) to end this “invasion” as he refers it.

Democrats and Republicans criticize Biden on immigration and border matters. Recent months have seen record-breaking levels of arrests at the U.S./Mexico border.

O’Rourke was asked if he would invite Joe Biden to Texas in order to support him during his campaign. He replied that he wouldn’t. This campaign isn’t going to be about Donald Trump. It won’t be about Donald Trump.

Trump, who is well-known for being a tough advocate on immigration, defeated Biden in Texas last year while losing the presidential elections nationally.
