REUTERS/Francois Lenoir LONDON, (Reuters) – Britain will be hosting foreign and development ministers of the G7 industrialized nations group and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations(ASEAN), at a summit to be held in Liverpool between Dec. 10 and Dec. 12. It announced Monday.
Britain’s Foreign Office stated in a statement that the summit would address economic resilience following COVID-19 as well as global health and human right issues.
Ministers from Indonesia and Thailand will attend, the statement said. It also stated that this was the first time ASEAN countries were included at a G7 summit of foreign ministers. This reflects “the UK’s increasing Indo-Pacific tilt”.
The G7’s rotating presidency will be held by Britain in 2021. It has hosted both the COP Climate Summit in Glasgow and the G7 Leaders Summit in Carbis Bay this June.
