Australia will allow all eligible holders of visas who have been fully immunized to travel to Australia starting Dec. 1, without the need to apply for any travel exemption, Scott Morrison, Prime Minister announced Monday.

Eligible visa holdersStudents, skilled workers, and refugees are all included, along with working holidaymakers.

Morrison stated that the steps taken today were about economic recovery. He also said that steps being taken today are about Australians looking ahead. Morrison spoke at a news briefing.

He said, “The return to Australia of skilled workers as well as students is a significant milestone on our path back.” It’s an important milestone in what Australians were able achieve, and allowed us to accomplish.

Australia’s borders were closed to all except permanent residents and Australian citizens in March 2020, due to the coronavirus epidemic.

Over 500,000 people have fled to other countries since then according to a parliamentary report in August. A shortage of skilled migrants and low unemployment have caused “major skills shortages” in several sectors of Australia’s economy, a member said.

Although the government expects that around 200,000 visa holders will be admitted to the country after restrictions end on December 1, Karen Andrews, Home Affairs Minister said it could take more. These travelers will be subject to appropriate quarantine arrangements depending on the state where they are entering.

State like Victoria, New South Wales, and the Australian Capital Territory do not require travelers to be vaccinated in mandatory quarantine.

Visitors from Japan and South Korea

After allowing vaccinated citizens from New Zealand and SingaporeAustralia will allow South Koreans and Japanese citizens to join this month.

Japanese and South Korean citizens will need to leave their homelands and obtain a visa for Australia. Before they can leave, they must be completely vaccinated with a positive Covid-19 test.

Morrison explained that Australia will be welcoming tourists from South Korea and Singapore as a “important first step” in its plans to open to foreign visitors. They are all important tourist markets in Australia and we welcome them back. We will also examine whether or not we can offer that hospitality to other countries over the next year.
