Cox says that the bill in its entirety would significantly reduce poverty, especially child poverty. Expansion of the Child Tax Credit (CTC), by itself, has been proven to reduce child poverty.

Build Back Better was not voted upon by the Senate. It will probably change before being passed. Here are some provisions from the House’s $1.75 Trillion version, which would benefit families.

Credit for child tax credits

The bill extends the enhanced CTCUp to 2022 This year, the credit has been increased to amount to up to $3,000 for children 6-17 years old and to $3,600 for those under six. The credit was also extended to half-time for families since July. BBB allows the advance of the growth amounts in the monthly payment for the whole year.

BBB also would permanently make the credit fully refundableFamilies do not have to earn any income in order to get the money.

It has increased by a whopping 80% in the last year. reduced the number of households facing food insecurityAnd lifted millions out of poverty.

While the majority of Senate Democrats support passing CTC as it is, Sen. Joe Manchin D-W.Va. has suggested modifying the CTC provisions adding a work requirementThis would decrease the amount of households that receive it, particularly low-income families.

Paid medical and family leave

House Democrats supported 12 weeks of family and medical leave paid for by President Joe Biden, despite his initial call. included four weeks in Build Back Better.

It also supports the growth of children and their ability to learn. boon to a family’s economic stability. The United States is among the few countries that do not provide paid leave for its citizens.

Cox states, “This shows the U.S. is catching up to other countries in many aspects.”

Despite this, Manchin has reacted against the inclusion of paid leave in the legislation. Democrats will need to have all 50 senators present for their agenda to be passed without any Republican support.

Child care subsidies

Built Back Better is funding that helps low- to moderate-income families, with children below 6 years old, get child care at affordable rates by licensing providers. Subsidizing some of or all the costs.

While subsidies are calculated based on family size and state median income, the majority of families would not have to pay more than 7% per year for care under this bill.

These are the best plan is not without criticsSome argue that it will increase the cost of child care for families with higher incomes than those who are eligible for subsidies. There is also a phase-in period for three years. In addition, billions of dollars are sent to the states by this bill to help address the rising demand for child-care workers.
