(Reuters) – Late Tuesday, the United States Department of Defense announced that it would create a new team to examine reports about UFOs within restricted airspace.

Following 144 observations by the government in June, the government published a report, which stated that there were not enough data to establish the nature of these mysterious flying objects.

Airborne Object Identification and Management Synchronization Group will now be managed by the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and the Director of the Joint Staff, as well as officials from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.

Kathleen Hicks, Deputy Secretary to Defense, stated in separate statements that the presence of an unidentified air phenomenon (UAP), in restricted airspace presents a risk of safety for aircrews as well as raising national security concerns.

Pentagon announced that the new group will take over from the U.S Navy’s Unidentified Aero Phenomena Task Force. They will use their expertise to identify, attribute, and assess objects as well as mitigate associated threats.

Since the 1940s, U.S. military has spent years debunking, discrediting and deflecting unidentified flying objects.
