The World Health Organization is urging the public to practice Covid mitigation tactics – including masking and distancing – regardless of vaccination status as cases surge across Europe heading into the holiday season.

A few countries have been lured to believe that the pandemic is over, and all vaccinated against Covid are safe. This was Dr. Tedros Adhanom Gebreyesus from WHO. He spoke during Wednesday’s update in Geneva.

Although Covid vaccines save lives and lower the likelihood of serious disease, he noted that people who have been vaccinated may still be at risk for spreading the virus to others if social mixing is back to normal.

Tedros explained that you should continue taking preventative measures to keep yourself from getting infected, even after being vaccinated. Wearing a mask is a good idea, along with keeping your distance from others, and avoiding large crowds.

Tedros called Europe the “epicenter of pandemic”, with “unsustainable stress” for both personnel and health-care systems. The WHO reported that Europe was responsible for 67%, or 11%, of the total Covid infections in the world during week ending November 21. There were more than 2 million cases, which is an increase of 2.4 millions, as per the WHO’s weekly epidemiological update.

WHO Office for Europe and Central Asia said TuesdayThese areas have seen a total of 1.5 million Covid-related deaths. They could also be responsible for 700,000 additional fatalities before March 2022. According to the organization, intensive care units across 49 of 53 regions could be subjected to extreme or high stress in the coming four months.

According to Dr. Mike Ryan (executive director of WHO’s Health Emergencies Program), Europe’s current epidemic is being fueled by governments that have reduced public health policies.

Ryan explained that even though there is a strong rise in cases in Europe and some countries are under great pressure to their health systems, Ryan saw pre-pandemic levels in social mixing, gathering, and other activities. And the truth is, the virus will transmit in those conditions.

Tedros noted that the majority of Covid cases reported worldwide is in Europe. However, Tedros also said that no country or region was “out of the woods” yet. Maria Van Kerkhove (the WHO technical lead for Covid), said that increasing vaccination coverage, using masks and distancing indoors, can all help reduce the transmission of Covid.

According to Johns Hopkins University data, covid infections in America are on the rise. On average, there are more than 95,000 cases of new cases per day. Hopkins reports that more than 1,100 Americans are currently dying each day from the virus.

A seven-day average of Health and Human Services data shows that more than 51,000 Americans are being treated with Covid-19. This is an increase of 7% from the week before.

CNBC interviewed Dr. Scott Gottlieb (ex-head of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration) who said more people than they realize are getting the disease from being vaccinated. weak monitoring of breakthrough infectionsThe U.S.

Gottlieb stated, “At the moment I believe we have to admit that there are a lot more breakthrough infections occurring, especially for people who are still recovering from their initial vaccination.” While there will be some retrospective studies that show this, we are not doing an adequate job tracking it in real time. He said that this was the reason for people to get boosters.

The U.S. has cleared Pfizer and Moderna boostersAll adults Friday. Johnson & Johnson boosters were cleared by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in October. Because people living in poverty have limited access to vaccines, the WHO criticizes the wide distribution of boosters within wealthy countries.

The NetherlandsThe partial lockdown was lifted on Saturday. Austria’sOn Monday, the fourth Covid lockdown was initiated. The nationwide mandate for vaccinations took effect on February 1. Germany is also weighing whether to introduce a lockdown as the country’s seven-day new case average reached a record-high of more than 53,100 per day on Tuesday, up 29% from the week before, according to a CNBC analysis of data from Johns Hopkins University.

Monday was the White House’s declaration that Biden’s administration does not plan to put its citizens under lockdown. This is despite rising vaccination rates, and online therapeutic treatment. Pfizer’s Covid medication pill Paxlovid has been purchased by 10 million Americans. The clinical trial showed that it was highly effective in keeping patients from being hospitalized.

Jeff Zients (White House coronavirus reaction coordinator) stated that the virus can be stopped without shutting down the economy. The vaccine is now available for 82% and the number of people who have been vaccinated has increased each week.
