(Reuters) – Ahmaud, a Black 25-year old man, was running in a predominantly white area on February 23, 2020. He was pursued by three men in trucks and shot to death about 2 miles (3 km) from the home of his mother near Brunswick (NYSE;), Georgia.

This is the case timeline:

FEB. 23, 2020

Arbery left his mom’s home before noon on Sunday to run along the coast of Brunswick, Georgia. His aunt Thea Brooks confirmed this.

A four-lane highway led him into Satilla Shores. It was lined by saw palmettos and old oaks adorned with Spanish Moss. There were also ranch-style homes along with docks for boats on the Little Satilla River.

Two miles into his run, McMichael passes Greg McMichael who is at his house making boat cushions. McMichael tells police that he believed Arbery was fleeing from crime. According to police reports, he shouts at his son Travis McMichael for him to buy a gun. They then chase each other in a pickup truck. The encounter is then recorded by William Bryan (a neighbor) on his pickup truck.

Arbery after being boxed by trucks can be seen reaching for Travis McMichael’s shotgun. Arbery, who is shot fatally three more times, runs away and then falls to the ground.

Glynn county police officers interviewed Bryan and McMichaels, but they did not press charges. They followed directions Jackie Johnson, Brunswick Judicial Circuit district attorney. A grand jury was later established.
