Argentina team to meet IMF staff in Washington to advance deal talks -Breaking

BUENOS AIRE (Reuters) – The International Monetary Fund staff will join a team of Argentina’s economic ministry and central bank to meet with a group from Washington starting Saturday in order to further discuss establishing a program.

After years of currency, economic and debt crises, the South American nation is trying to reach an agreement with IMF to pay $45 billion more on its 2018 failed loan.

The ministry stated in a statement that the goal was to “continue advancing in technical understandings within a framework of negotiations with this multilateral lender for program that allows us refinance loan taken in 2018”.

The Fund stated that the meeting will focus on “deepening technical discussions in support of an IMF program”.

Although the Argentine government stated that it will present to Congress an agreement with the IMF on an economic plan, neither they nor the IMF have mentioned that the plan will be considered.
