In the last week, natural gas prices dropped. The high prices of natural gas mean that households in the United States will spend more this winter to heat their homes, as winter approaches. Hence, natural gas stocks Range Resources (RRC) and Southwestern Energy (SWN) could be solid additions to one’s portfolio now.Though natural gas prices dipped in the past few days, it has surged substantially this year, with demand outpacing supply. U.S. had its strongest performance in two months. On November 26th, it jumped more than 7%. Gas futures for December delivery increased 7.5% to $5.447 for one million British thermal units (mmBtu).

Jennifer Granholm (Energy Secretary) says that heating costs are likely to rise significantly this winter. Natural gas heating could cost consumers up to 30% more than last year. U.S. Gas futures have fallen on Tuesday because of warmer-than-usual winter temperatures. The substance is up by 80% for the year, and it’s expected to have its best year in five years since 2005.
