Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

The index rose by 1.37% at the NSE close, and the stock market closed up by 1.35%.

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd. (NS:) were the top performers during the session. They rose by 4.40%, or 31.15 point to trade at 739.10 after the closing. Meanwhile, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS) gained 3.85%, or 104.15 point to finish at 2807.80. Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd was up 3.52% (or 7.30 points) to 214.50 late trade.

They were also the session’s worst performers Cipla Ltd. (NS): Traded at 921.25 after the close by a drop of 0.74%, or 6.90 points. ICICI Bank Ltd (NS) fell 0.73%, or 5.30 point to reach 722.40. AXIS Bank Ltd. (NS) dropped 0.52%, or 3.50 to reach 676.10.

Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (BO) rose 3.92% at 2809.15. Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (BO) was up 3.65% at 214.65. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO) gained 3.11% at 768.55.

The worst-performing banks were ICICI Bank Ltd. (BO) down 0.78% at 722.55, AXIS Bank Ltd.(BO:), which lost 0.55% at 676.05, and UltraTech Cement Ltd. (BO) down 0.03% at 7322.25.

On the India National Stock Exchange, rising stocks outnumbered those in decline by 1288, 476, and 46. The ending of the Bombay Stock Exchange saw 2111 rise and 1042 fall, and 143 end unchanged.

The shares of Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (NS:), rose by 3.52%, or 7.30 to 214.50. Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (BO) shares rose by 3.65%, or 7.55 to 217.65.

The implied volatility index of Nifty 50 options was 6.99% lower at 18.0875.

The February delivery of Gold Futures was lower by 0.54%, or 9.65, to $1774.65 per troy ounce. Other commodities traded included Crude oil, which rose to $66.92/barrel in January by 2.06% (or 1.35), while February Brent oil contracts rose to $70.24/barrel at 1.99% (1.37).

USD/INR fell 0.02% at 74.990 while EUR/INR rose by 0.07% at 84.9555.

US Dollar Index Futures were down 0.6% at 95.970.
