WASHINGTON (Reuters] – President Biden is trying to increase its pandemic response in the wake of Omicron coronavirus’ official appearance. He laid out a plan Thursday that would make COVID-19 at-home tests free of charge and accelerate the push for booster shots.

Here are the main measures of the plan that the U.S. president Joe Biden will discuss later Thursday.

FREE AT-HOME and OVER-THE COUNTER TESTS

The White House announced that private health insurers will have to reimburse their customers for COVID-19 test costs at home. Federal guidance is expected by January 15.

It added that at-home testing will be available for the uninsured at no cost at local community testing locations.

U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved home tests Abbott Laboratories (NYSE: )’ BinaxNOW by OraSure Techno Inc’s InteliSwab and ACON Laboratories FlowFlex. Ellume home test is also available.

FIGHT FOR SHOTS IN BOOSTERS

In response to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s revised guidance, which recommends that everyone get a booster shot this week by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, both U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and pharmacies will be launching a public awareness campaign.

According to the White House, pharmacies will also take extra steps to improve vaccine availability. This includes evening and weekend hours.

Outreach will also be done by both the Medicare program for people over 65, and those with disabilities and the Medicaid program to low-income persons.

TIGHTER TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Sources told Reuters that the U.S. CDC will require international travelers to be tested for COVID-19 in one day after they depart, regardless of whether or not they have been vaccinated. The March 18 deadline for masks on planes, trains and other public transport vehicles will also be extended.

It could be implemented as soon as next weeks.

According to documents reviewed by Reuters, CDC officials ordered that airlines disclose the names of passengers and other details for people who traveled to eight African countries to identify early Omicron cases.

CLINICS OF FAMILY VACCINATION

White House stated that the White House plans to open hundreds of family vaccine clinics across America. These will provide a one-stop shop for eligible children, parents and grandparents to obtain booster shots and initial vaccinations.

The clinics will be held in December at community health centers. The plan also states that mobile clinics for health will soon be available across the country. They will start in Washington and New Mexico. The White House stated that retail pharmacies such as CVS Health Corp (NYSE 🙂 and Rite Aid Corp (NYSE 🙂 Corp will allow family-based appointment scheduling.

INCREASING THE SUPPLY OF TREATMENT SUPPLIES

Biden will make public plans for making new COVID-19 treatments accessible to everyone, no matter their income and zip code.

According to the Administration, 13,000,000 doses of antiviral course are being secured.
