U.S. stocks higher at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 1.82% -Breaking

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

The NYSE closed with an increase of 1.82% and the index adding 1.42%. Index added 0.83%.

They were the top performers at the session Boeing Co (NYSE:), rose by 7.54% to trade at 223.38 at the closing. Meanwhile, American Express Company (NYSE:), added 4.47% (6.71 points) to close at 156.77 Visa Inc Late trade saw Class A (NYSE 🙂 rise 4.28%, or 8.13 points, to 198.29

Walmart Inc (NYSE) fell 1.67 points or 0.74% to end at 135.47. Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:) declined 0.74% or 0.55 points to end at 73.89 and Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:) was down 0.63% or 0.99 points to 157.09.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Kroger Company (NYSE:) which rose 11.04% to 44.65, Delta Air Lines Inc (NYSE:) which was up 9.28% to settle at 36.64 and Carnival Corporation (NYSE:) which gained 9.22% to close at 17.89.

They were among the most disappointing. Lam Research Corp (NASDAQ) was down 4.62%, to 661.52 during late trade. PVH Corporation (NYSE:), which lost 4.11% and settled at 100.77 was also down. Applied Materials Inc (NASDAQ) was down 3.42%, to 146.49 at close.

These were the top performers in the NASDAQ Composite Ardelyx Inc (NASDAQ): This rose 38.21% up to 1.700 Jowell Global Ltd. (NASDAQ :), which was up 25.56 to settle at 13.360 Information Analysis Inc (NASDAQ:), which saw a 23.71% increase to end at 3.34

They were among the most disappointing. Tantech Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:), which fell 57.00% to 0.64450 in late trading Kirklands Inc (NASDAQ) lost 24.78%, to settle at 15,48. 180 Life Sciences Corp(NASDAQ:), which was down 23.56% at 3.86 at close.

Stocks that are rising outnumbered those in decline on the New York Stock Exchange were 2427 to 839. 120 ended unchanged. On the Nasdaq Stock Exchange 2450 rose while 1294 fell, and 165 finished unchanged.

Kirklands Inc shares (NASDAQ:), fell 52 weeks to their lowest point, falling 24.78% (5.10-15.48).

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 10.19% to 27.95.

The February delivery of Gold Futures was lower by 0.83%, or 14.75 percent to $1769.55 per troy ounce. In commodities trading, crude oil for January delivery rose by 2.82%, or 1.85, to reach $67.42 per barrel. The February Brent oil contract dropped 0.01%, or 0.01, to trade at $70.41 per barrel.

EUR/USD rose 0.2% to 1.1301 while USD/JPY rose by 0.04% at 113.19.

At 96.120, the US Dollar Index Futures rose 0.10%.
